Gaming Technology Summit to Explore Technology’s Role in Surviving the Recession
LAS VEGAS (February 12, 2009) – The gaming industry’s leading technology conference, Gaming Technology Summit, will hold its seventh annual edition May 19-21, 2009, at Green Valley Ranch here. It has become the favored venue for industry professionals to discuss real-world technology challenges and solutions for all segments of the gaming industry.
The Summit takes on special importance this year, as casino spending grinds to a halt and the pressure to maintain revenues and market share is increasing. There are few internal departments that have the capability to relieve this pressure without additional spending – and information technology might be the one department best suited for this task.
“Information technology can be leveraged in new ways to support a casino’s efforts to maintain revenues and market share,” said Saverio R. Scheri III, Managing Director at WhiteSand Consulting, co-producer of the Summit along with BNP Media. “With this in mind, we have invited IT leaders from within gaming and from outside the industry to share their success stories at the 2009 Gaming Technology Summit. As we struggle through this recession and anxiously await the recovery to begin, casinos must find new ways to use the tools at their disposal such as data mining, customer segmentation, market and profitability analysis, efficiencies of scale, automation and outsourcing.”
While mature IT departments are usually well positioned to provide this type of support, there may also be opportunities for smaller IT groups to assist as well, and the Gaming Technology Summit provides a fabulous opportunity to share ideas and learn from the experts. It annually attracts the best in the business from around the world – hundreds of technology professionals and vendors from the United States, Canada, Australia, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Macau, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain and the U.K. attended last year’s event.
Two keynote speakers are already confirmed for this year’s Summit. They are Greg Shay, President and Chief Executive Officer of VCAT, and Ramesh Srinivasan, Executive Vice President of Bally Technologies.
For the second straight year, the Summit is partnering with the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, and this year’s special workshop is the Resort Management Forum. Scheduled for May 19, the Forum will help make the most of the technology already in place at gaming resorts of all sizes, define the areas where prudent new technology investments should be made and provide technology tools to successfully manage the resort side of facilities in today’s demanding environment.
