Argentine province proceeds with online casino bid
The Loteria de Cordoba is soliciting bids to determine the operator for its controversial online casino site, which the agency hopes to have up and operating in June. The agency will select a private company to provide and manage the software necessary for the online casino.

Loteria de Cordoba’s online gaming plans calls for the cooperation of the province’s land-based casino operators. The agency want to create a Web site that broadcasts roulette, black jack and other table games in real time as they occur at brick-and-mortar casinos. Visitors to the site would be able to bet on these games as if they were actually at the casino.

Patrons physically at the casino would be barred from betting at the online site.

If successful, Cordoba would join Corrientes as the only two Argentine provinces offering online gaming. Unlike the proposed Cordoba online casino, the Corrientes site, which is up and operating, is completely virtual.

Loteria de Cordoba’s authorities said they believe their hybrid virtual/brick-and-mortar online casino has more credibility than the 100 percent virtual products.

A group of local legislators have criticized Loteria de Cordoba’s online casino project and is moving to suspend the public bidding process. They said they favor “casinos in tourist areas, but not in bedrooms through the Internet.”
