Oberthur teams up with Atari for new line of lottery games
Oberthur Gaming Technologies, a leading instant lottery ticket provider, has signed an exclusive agreement with Atari Interactive, Inc. to bring popular arcade game themes to the lottery industry.

Included in the agreement are the games Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Millipede, Pong, and Super Breakout. Oberthur has licensed these brands for use in instant lottery tickets, online terminal games, and Cyber Games, the company’s Web-based lottery products. It’s the first time Atari has offered these properties to the lottery industry.

“With old school being the new cool, lotteries can choose retro-style graphics to appeal to consumers or use updated versions of Atari’s new modernized graphic designs,” said Carla Schaefer, Oberthur’s vice president of new business development in a prepared release. “This is the perfect opportunity for Lotteries to launch a ‘Family of Atari games’ by incorporating them into their game plans with consecutive or simultaneous game launches.”

Atari first developed Pong as a popular arcade video game in the 1970s, and followed that with Centipede, one of the world’s most popular games.

The new agreement continues the trend of using licensed products in the lottery industry. They allow lotteries to offer products and game themes that attract players who might not otherwise buy lottery games. Dozens of licensed properties are offered by several industry vendors, and some of the resulting games have been among the lottery industry’s best-selling products.

Oberthur’s selection of licensed products, in addition to the new Atari games, includes Hagar the Horrible, The Price is Right, Family Feud, Slingo, Beetle Bailey and Mah Jong.
