Wireless wagering now up to GLI test
Sona Mobile Holdings Corp.—based in New York, Toronto and London—has submitted its mobile gaming platform to Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) for testing and certification.

“Last year, the State of Nevada passed a law allowing for wireless gaming on casino premises, creating significant opportunities for the wireless gaming delivery system developed by Sona and our strategic partner, Shuffle Master,” said Sona Mobile chairman and CEO Shawn Kreloff in a press release. “We believe our product is the first wireless gaming solution to be submitted to GLI.”

The company’s platform consists of software designed to run on personal digital assistants, mobile phones or other similar devices. Also included is application software for multiple games, including Shuffle Master’s proprietary table games and horse racing and sports book applications. “The many applications running on the gaming platform are intended to provide a rich wireless extension to the gaming experience,” Sona Mobile’s press release said.

Certification by GLI will be crucial for operating the mobile platform in numerous domestic and international markets—and Sona Mobile plans to offer the platform and applications to horse track and sports book operators. “We have previewed our horse wagering application for track operators in the U.S. and Europe and have received interest,” Kreloff said.

Sona and Shuffle Master have also recently submitted the platform to the Nevada Gaming Control Board for review.

The company said in its press release that it believed its horse wagering application is “the only wireless application that enables real-time track wagering while receiving video in real time to watch the races, offering a rich viewer experience.”

If Sona Mobile’s application to be licensed for manufacturing and distribution is approved by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the company will be able to serve as a vendor to Nevada casino operators. In the meantime, the company will use Shuffle Master’s license. “Getting licensed by the Nevada Gaming Control Board would represent an important step in building our presence with Las Vegas casino operators,” Kreloff said.
